There are people who have some very good reason why they cannot earn their own living so are dependent on others. They may have home and family responsibilities such as caring for children of a relative who is disabled or special medical needs. They may have some kind of sensory impairment like poor sight themselves. They may have a special medical need that means that they need additional supervision such as someone who is are risk of having a seizure drowning in the bath.

Whatever the reason why you are struggling to earn a living there are ways in which creating and selling an information product could help. It is a way of developing an income in those short periods of the day when you are able to use the computer. It takes planning and determination but it is possible. You may need to develop or improve on your skills but if you can already have a computer that you to write things then you have the basic skills and equipment needed.

Some people develop entire multi million pound businesses around information products. Others develop an information product as one strand of a business. Some take to all aspects of creating and selling information products like a duck to water for others it takes time and effort to learn the additional skills. Whatever your dream in terms of becoming financially independent, creating and selling information products could help you achieve it.

Do you know that answer to a problem that other people are struggling with? Do you have a  proven strategy that will help people win a battle? Well you are the right person to create an information product. People are looking for answers to problems and you might be the one with an answer that suits them.

Age, gender, appearance, medical history, disability are not barriers to creating an information product. Look at the motivational speakers who have overcome challenges in their own lives. It could be an illness a disability or a disability that has arisen after having an illness. Others make their life story into an information product such as how I became a world renowned surgeon despite stating life in a poor black community or how I started life in poverty and am now a millionaire.

Alternatively something that is not a challenge to you may be a skill or topic that you can base an information product on. Your natural talent or ability may make it easy for you to do something that other people find difficult. Other people want to achieve the same results as you have and want to know your secret. They want to know the proven method you have developed. This could be anything. There is even an information product available online that is designed to help people develop a system to keep their home clean.

If you don’t find writing easy what about sharing ideas via images or the spoken word. If you don’t find it easy standing up before a large audience you could share with people on a one to one basis. You may need to work with helpers such as someone who can take your collection of memoirs you have recorded and make them into a book. Another stumbling block is that people think that an information product has to be a large project like a book. Yet most successful writers start with producing smaller pieces like articles and build up from there. The authors who go on to make the most money are the ones who provide other information products like coaching to the people who have read their books. You will never know how much you can achieve in terms of creating an information product until you try.

I have been following another blog where the writer stirred up people with their comments about the benefits system. He was trying to make sense of the benefit system in the light of the traditional idea that if a man does not work then he should not eat. If you look at the roots of the word naughty it is linked to the idea that if people had naught  (meaning nothing) then they would misbehave. It was once used for people who were so hungry that they stole food. While no one would want to go back to that situation there surely must a way to support people who would like to move away from being dependent on handouts to survive by working.

Not very far from here there used to be a Remploy factory. They took on employees with special needs such as mobility issues or sensory impairments. They provided a job for people who otherwise would struggle to find one because of the additional challenges their special needs brought. I had this crazy idea and wondered if it would be possible to set up some kind of agency or other means of bringing together those who faced additional challenges and therefore struggled to find a job with those who needed the services of a virtual assistant for a few hours a week or a day. A virtual assistant is someone who does administration tasks for others but works from home.  It must be possible as there is someone who has a web site that links up people who want computer based tasks done with people in the Philippines who want to use their computer skills while working for someone from overseas. Trouble is we don't have the ability to set this kind of project up at the moment. .

Well what could we do? Since we published What IS stopping you from blossoming on Smashwords we have completed another eBook. This one is called Sowing and Growing Information Products. There is a link to the sales page on the right hand side.  I realised that encouraging people to create and sell information products could lead to some people being able to develop their own business and earn money rather than being dependent on handouts. It would not be for everyone as those who started it would need to be willing to take responsibility to change their own situation by developing their skills. It would not happen overnight for most people either but it would start a process that would help them improve their situation.
